The Mustangs

22/4/2020

I enjoy travelling, seeing new places and trying new foods. As I travel I enjoy photographing the things I see and do. Recently I was in the lower Mustang Region of northern Nepal. It is a place of splendour and beauty with incredible scenery and mountains.

The people are very friendly and are ready to help you in whatever way they can to make your stay a pleasant one. We flew from Pokhara into the small town of Jomsom and a jeep met us at the airport to take us to Muktinath.
Muktinath, 12,000 feet above sea level, is home to a very famous temple in the Hindu religion, but it is also a good location for mountain views. There is a good hotel nearby called Yak Donalds, and one of their specialties is yak steak. Our stay at Yak Donalds was made quite pleasant with the excellent food, cosy beds and friendly staff. On leaving Yak Donalds we stopped at the small white town of Marpha.

Marpha is known for the production of apricots and apples. Some of the best in all Nepal. The town is picturesque and there are many tourist shops where you can purchase anything from a yak tail to dried apricot pulp. Our Jeep then took us to the tiny town of Lete nestled in a valley with high mountains all around.

The views are stunning in the morning as the sun rises. One of the best hotels that I have found in this town is the Kalopani Guest house. Our stay in the Mustang Region of Nepal ended when we returned to Pokhara by way of the road. Along the road there are many excellent views and photographic opportunities. Truly a photographers paradise. Sometime I would like to return to Muktinath and take the walking trail back to Pokhara. The Mustang Region of Nepal is closed to foreigners unless you hold a permit which you can purchase in Pokhara. The cost is approximately $50 USD. The flight tickets from Pokhara to Jomsom are around $120 USD.

Who we are

This website is run to help share travel experiences and advice. We rely on travellers from all around the world to record their travels and send them in so that we can share and connect them with people interested in travelling or to those wanting to know more about that certain destination. (please get in contact if you have a trip you would like to share)

Myself (Alex Hood) and the head journalist of the site (Elly Babe) also share our own travel experience for others to enjoy and be inspired by. We both study English Literature at the University of Brighton and love the way in which the site has allowed us to put in to practice what we have learn't on our degree.  We will be moving to Athens for a study year so expect lost of content from Greece. Any advice or tips are always welcome.
