Teacher Guides (TGs), provided by New Globe, ensure that all students are taught to an international first-rate standard. The TGs assist teachers by not only supplying them with what to teach, but also giving directions on how to deliver the information to have the best impact on the students.
In March, the World Bank released an article titled, ‘Raising the foundation without lowering the ceiling: How to utilize teachers’ guides to facilitate high-quality instruction’. The article highlighted the many advantages of Teacher Guides and explained how many developing countries have been able to utilise them to ensure excellent education across the schools where TGs have been implemented. At New Globe we agree with many of the points discussed in the article, those using TGs have seen a vast improvement in the education systems. The guides are not to be used alongside traditional educational pedagogical practises. They have been designed to rewire the lessons with varied, evidence-based pedagogical strategies. These strategies accommodate the different learning styles within the classroom and ensure that visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, or reading/writing learners are all stimulated by the lessons. The Teacher Guides are designed to allow teachers of differing levels of experience to be able to support and facilitate learning in their class to a high standard, no matter their level of experience. World Bank accurately states that ‘TGs are not a permanent solution and the long-term ambition of education systems should be to gradually reduce the use of TGs as teacher expertise grows’. This statement highlights the importance of TGs as they give the teachers a reliable and strong foundation to work upon, while at the same time giving them the peace of mind that they are teaching the right subjects in the correct way. The guides are fundamental to delivering the best lessons possible and subsequently improving outcomes given the comprehensive structure within them. We have seen vast improvements in the educational systems where the TGs have been used. In RTI International research paper they report that ‘teachers’ guides achieved significant impacts on learning outcomes’, and they had ‘substantial and meaningful impact on learning’. RTI make it clear in their paper that TGs are improving the education of students in the classrooms where it is being used. The study examined the possibility that the Teaching Guides may restrict creativity and autonomy, however, the results highlighted that the TGs freed up the teacher’s time and allowed them more time to engage in the socio-emotional and personal aspects of teaching. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there has been massive disruption to education across the world, impacting on pupils, students, and teachers alike across the board. Teaching Guides provided by New Globe can significantly contribute to the lost learning in the pupil’s education due to the virus, TGs enable both teachers and pupils to get back on track through supportive pedagogical lesson structures. The Teaching Guides education and learning will not only ensure lost learning is recovered, but also enable progress internationally whilst ensuring first-rate standards.
