The Baha’i Temple of Worship or more popularly known as the Lotus Temple, is situated in Delhi, the capital of India. My love for architecture has been growing within me for more than 20 years and thus, this temple holds a special place in my heart. The beautiful white marble curves like a lotus flower while extending outwards creating a cave downwards perceived as a shadow at the bottom. The building is supported by a foundation around which is surrounded by nine ponds in the shape of a pentagon. The flower leaves (the curves) that extend outward are nine in number. Inside the temple there is absolute silence and is a place for meditation and prayers. Photography is not allowed inside the arch as it is disturbs the silence of the atmosphere. There are green grass lawns along side the pathway to the temple with beautiful trees of China Orange planted at several steps. A guide is not necessary to explore this sacred place for there are staff on hand who will guide you with every aspect of the place with their knowledgeable experience. The only thing a person is required to dodge is the cab drivers waiting outside the gate and the metro station nearby. For an adverse situation there are law and enforcement personnel posted nearby, one may contact them in case of any undesirable situation. To my experience what I felt inside the temple is an immense feeling of peace and a mental connection with something that is astonishingly explainable. When you start to close your eyes and express your prayers in your mind, you might feel Goosebumps on your arms at a certain point of time, some might not feel it happening if they are not at peace enough. There is a sign on the top of the temple, I am not aware of the meaning of the sign and I didn’t even try to search for its meaning because all i was aware of was a journey of finding peace as I had been suffering with several issues that was intrusive in my mind for a while. The Lotus Temple is something of beauty and peace and should not be missed on a visit to India. Author,Blog post written by Siddharth Das:
