First Snowy Steps

First (snowy) Steps of Freedom
The story I’ll tell you, will almost be a Christmas story, as this picture was taken in December last year. I was walking with a dog from the shelter (That I volunteer at) in the park in Moscow city and the nature wintery scene was like that from a fairy tale. My dog, named Brut, was making his first steps in the big world -  no more cages for him - he was still afraid of people, and other dogs and of a new life, in general.
He was living in the shelter since a little puppy and for four years knew only his cage, his brother and the shelter’s staff. He was absolutely wild, and didn’t know any collar or leash, of course. However, I decided to tame him and give him a chance to find a home. That day it was snowing without stopping and the world was especially beautiful due to the whiteness everywhere. It was quiet around, near us there weren’t any people and any dogs. Suddenly, Brut saw a squirrel on a tree in front of us, flinched, got afraid and lay down in the snow. As I’m also an amateur photographer and I always walk with my camera in the backpack, I thought it would be a great photo of Brut under the snow. And in that moment I took this photo…
Nowadays Brut is still living in the shelter and I continue to be a volunteer, to socialize the dogs and to take photos of them. And I continue to hope, one day Brut and the other dogs will find a home and caring owners.
